83rd ride of 2019 - Monday, 9/9/2019

After taking my frequent (though not inevitable) Sunday rest day yesterday, I got back at it today, leaving about 2:00 in cloudy 69° conditions. It is a big week for me, as I'm having surgery early Wednesday morning, and in preparation for that, Michelle asked me to avoid my longer rides today and tomorrow. So today I just rode to Marsh Park, doing 10.1 miles in 1:09.

2019 mileage: 3361.7 After taking Sunday as a rest day (a frequent occurrence), I then needed to take yesterday as a rest day, too, due to a perfect storm of reasons. To start with, it was a relatively busy day, with numerous errands to address. And then physically, my feet were hurting me considerably. Even worse, though, I was so sleepy that I was almost falling asleep on my feet. At any rate, today I was glad to get back on it, and rode another round trip to Baker Rd. 3rd ride of 2019 - Monday, 3/11/2019

2019 mileage: 1111.7 Today's ride was only my third outdoor ride of the year, on a brisk (40° and partly sunny) day. (Spring is sight, but winter has not relinquished its hold on us entirely quite yet.) And the effect of the temperature was augmented by a gentle, cooling 19 mph breeze that kept me from overheating. Even with gloves, my fingers were tingling. I had hoped to ride consecutive round trips to Marsh Park (for the first time since early October), but instead had to settle for a single one because of an unexpected delay that constrained my schedule. As I hadn't ridden outside in nearly two months, when I went to turn on the MapMyRIde app on my phone, it had to be reloaded into my phone, so I had to cool my heels (quite literally) in the driveway for over 10 minutes while this took place. 30th ride of 2019 - Friday, 5/17/2019

2019 mileage: 1863.7 Today I set off about 10:45 and rode another round trip to Baker Rd. During the ride, it was 66° and cloudy. But I was glad to be able to push ahead with it, and as I ride these days, listening to my "Mary Poppins" playlist (containing the soundtracks from both Mary Poppins and Mary Poppins Returns ) on Spotify has become my most frequent aural accompaniment. It was today, too. I generally do my blog immediately following the conclusion of my ride, but today that was not possible, as I went to see a showing of the current movie Tolkien , which depicts the famous author's youth, the beginning of his academic career, and his courtship of Edith Bratt, who was his wife for the rest of their lives (over fifty years, from their marriage in 1916 to their deaths in the early seventies).
