77th ride of 2019 - Thursday, 8/29/2019

2019 mileage: 2884.9

Another beautiful day for a ride! I left about 8:30 this morning in 61° sunshine (that climbed to 76° by the time I finished), and rode again past Marsh Park on the new part of the trail, over to Platt Rd., then northward on the Platt Rd. Greenway to Ellsworth, and then on sidewalks to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital (which I regard as my "home away from home" since I was a patient there from June-December 1993 as I recovered from my accident). After looping around the hospital, i returned home via the same route, giving me a ride of 27.2 miles in 3:33. I had done a similar ride to this two times last week.'



I took this photo because just last evening, Michelle and I were at the Reichert Building. I had an MRI, as my doctor wanted to check out an anomaly discovered during a recent CAT scan. Previously I had been told it was a cyst on a kidney; last night they said it was a lesion on the liver. At any rate, I'm still living! 😎

12th ride of 2019 - Wednesday, 4/10//2019

2019 mileage: 1402.1 I really did not want to ride today, for two reasons. (1) I'm fighting a hellacious cold (the worst in memory). (2) We are experiencing a cold front in advance of the blizzard which is currently pummeling the upper plains, and is supposed to bless us with a little bit of snow tonight. Whereas the temperature exceeded 70° both Sunday and Monday, and 60° yesterday, today's ride was conducted in 39°/40° conditions, which meant I should have worn my gloves -- unfortunately, I didn't realize this until a couple of miles into the ride. However, in an execrable example of timing, I chose to take yesterday as a rest day in order to devote more time to composition. Given that, I really felt that I needed to ride today, and was happy to be able to leave at 10 a.m. and do a single round trip to Marsh Park (10.2 miles in 1:11). 92nd ride of 2019 - Friday, 10/4/2019

2019 mileage: 3117.3 This morning, after dropping Michelle off at school, and then going to church to practice piano, I  came home and sat in my chair for a while, and the longer I sat, the more desperately I did NOT want to ride today. But eventually, somehow I managed to scrounge up the gumption for it, and in retrospect I'm over so glad I did. It was a lovely fall day for a ride—partly sunny, and 55° (so that a hoodie felt just right), and I rode another round trip to Baker Rd., going 19.4 miles in 2:36. (I trimmed just a little bit off my full 20-mile route by a slight shortcut on the way home.)  Also, I crossed over another mileage milestone today -- 3100 for the year -- th e first one  in what seems like FOREVER. I exceeded 3000 on my last ride before my September 11 surgery (on September 9)

86th ride of 2019 - Wednesday, 9/25/2019

2019 mileage: 3031.6 Complying with Michelle's request, I kept my ride short again today, just doing another round trip to Marsh Park. However, for the third straight day, my MapMyRide app malfunctioned again, inexplicably slipping into Pause mode a couple of times during the opening minutes otf the ride. (For instance, it measured the ride, which I know from experience to be 10.1 miles, at 8.9 miles.) It has cooled off a bit today towards more seasonable levels, though I still rode comfortably in shorts and a short-sleeved shirt, in partly sunny 68°-70° conditions.
